Hands down the best coach I’ve ever had, across any sport. He prioritized my health and school work even more than my athletic performance. Created a great culture. The only people who didn’t like him were partiers who did not make the team a priority. As long as you try hard, he will be your greatest supporter.

Artie is always there for his athletes both as runners and as people. He cared about each individual on the team and their happiness was more important than their success in the sport. He also was very knowledgeable about distance running and coached me to competing at the highest level.

Artie was an excellent coach. He is extremely passionate about the sport and wanted all of the student-athletes that he worked with to succeed in sport and in life. He understood the demands of being a student-athlete and recognized that they were just that: students first, athletes second. Great coach!

It was an absolute pleasure to be coached by Artie Smith during my time at Cornell University. From day one he supported my growth not just as an athlete, but as a person. He believed in me and challenged me and helped me develop the skills and confidence necessary to succeed both on and off the track.

Coach Artie emphasized to his athletes to appreciate the opportunity given to you and that no one can ask you to give more than your best. He really lived by that! He was always invested in athletes' wellbeing, academic and athlete success.

Had one of the highest injury rates on the team in the sport. Didn’t care about the well being of the athletes. Arrogant, condescending, and incapable of listening to others.
