Brian Lee should not be allow to coach soccer let alone women's soccer. He is verbally abusive, psychologically abusive, he humiliates players on the field or at team meetings, divides the team by starters and non starters, shows blatant favoritism , is dishonest regarding scholarship money and playing time. Rice Athletics is aware of the situation and needs to not renew Brian Lee's contract and hire a coach that brings the Rice Soccer Program together in a positive way and is reflective of the integrity and reputation of Rice University. Brian Lee is NOT an asset to Rice University and is harmful to its student athletes.

Rice athletics needs to do better for their student athletes. Overwhelming number of complaints have been brought to the attention of administration regarding Brian Lee's coercive and threatening coaching tactics. His players are afraid to speak the truth in fear of losing scholarship money and or playing time. This year it has been common knowledge one of his favorites has been allowed to determine the fate of teammates' playing time or lack there of based on her own personal opinion. Recruits should be very cautious when committing to Rice.

Brian Lee is not the coach for a player wanting a positive college soccer experience. My experience was overall negative. positive team culture is nonexistent, favoritism to certain players is off the charts and starter/non starter team division is fostered by Brian and his staff. I can say my experience was emotionally and mentally draining from his psychological abuse. Rice athletics failed us as student athletes when we went to administration with what was going on behind locker room doors.

Negative team culture, continued targetting of specific players, emotional abuse, psychological abuse, coercive coach -players relationship, holds only certain players accountable for their performance on the field, and ignores bullying behavior by his known favorites. Recruits or transfers looking for a good collegiate soccer experience should do their homework before committing to Rice soccer program under Brian Lee

Blatant favoritism, negative team culture, team division and targeting of certain players is Brian Lee's standard coaching style. Reviews dated back to his LSU years show a consistent negative pattern which has continued at Rice in spite of repeated student athletes complaints to administration. Recruits looking at this program and coach should look to get a genuine and honest opinion not an edited version from a hand picked student athlete host.

Coach focuses on players and the person and is invested in development on and off the field. Challenge and growth are definitely present. Has a whole team approach and does not like to single out individuals but the whole team. Has a voice of the match award for those who show positivity and leadership on or off the field it’s cool. Shows values of character as well and talent. Very happy and love the girls and coachea

Reviews of Brian Lee are consistent for emotional/psychological abuse of players, negative team culture, fostering division between players and team, and blatant favoritism shown to specific players. It is very unfortunate Rice University Administration has repeatedly ignored the numerous Student-Athletes' concerns and complaints regarding his mistreatment and emotional abuse of players. Any recruit considering this program should proceed with caution and get honest feedback from alumni or current players versus rely on the scripted sales pitch of the host player and coaching staff.

"Leads" by fear and threats. So many players are beat down and afraid to talk to him or any of the staff, let alone compliance avenues. Starters are not immune to his verbal tirades and degradation, but fear speaking up because they know their playing time will be eliminated. Hard for many of the players to watch how he treats specific players, but again fear speaking up. Worry about the mental stability of the players, definitely worried about how they internalize his words and actions and what consequences they have down the line. With tuition at $97,000 girls can't afford to quit and still attend Rice. Rice has an option to extend Brian's contract at the end of the season, I hope they look at the history he has and opt to go find one of the many young, talented, and excited coaches out there.

Brian Lee should not be coach ANY woman's sports ! He has several complaints via the NCAA compliance division as well as ethics complaints regarding inappropriate and mistreatment of his players ! If your considering Rice for woman's soccer , please reconsider and reach out to one of the players and see what they tell you about him ! He is very good friends with the athletic director at Rice which is probably the only reason besides the fact that the Dean also had his daughter play for him. He's been investigated by the NCAA at Rice as well as at LSU. With today's mental illness at an all time high and the stress of academics at rice. I fear the mental games this man plays could end bad. Please do your research before committing to play for Brian Lee

It's a shame Rice University has kept Brian Lee as their Women's Soccer coach for 8 years. He talks about team unity but then divides the team by starters and bench warmers. His starters are always his 'favorites' even when there are better players sitting on the bench. He will tell a player how to improve and when they achieve that goal, he creates another problem so the girls are given another goal - never to see the field no matter how much they improve. He says he's about team building but then before a game he will tell them they are going to lose. Way to build confidence Coach. The players won't complain about him to the Administrations any more for fear of lose of playing time. There have been complaints from players about his psychological abuse but Rice has chosen to ignore the problem. Rice's Womens Soccer Team has succeeded because of the integrity and strength of the players not because of their coach. Maybe in spite of him and his assistance coaches. The assistance coaches ignore/support(?) his actions.

Very unfortunate Rice University has failed to support the numerous student-athletes who have gone to administration with reports of the repeated psychological abuse suffered under this coach. Places emphasis on personal character which he is very much lacking. Prides himself on creating a positive team culture but in reality team creates division and rivalry amongst players

Clearly has favorites based on personal relationships he has with parents. Creates an overall very poor team culture, despite claiming a positive team culture exists. Divides the team between starters and the rest of the team. Not very direct or honest with his players.

Made up a bunch of lies to me and other teammates about money/playing time. Was never straight up and never stayed true to his word. I played a significant amount of minutes, so this review is coming from a unbiased player. His tactics were awful, his game plans were never that great. He was basically fired from lsu.

Lack of modern day soccer knowledge. Still booting the ball up field. No concept of possession. Clear favorites on the team. Creates a starter/non starter divide on the team. Does not build the best team to win - even tells us that we aren't going to win. A shame Rice has allowed him to stay as long as he has and to get away with years of psychological abuse.

Favoritism precedes all respectable coaching decisions. Positive team culture is superficial at best. Claims to facilitate unity within the team, however blatant preferential treatment is given to certain players resulting in obvious division/cliques with the team. Stresses fitness level but only holds some players accountable for their fitness. Questionable morals and ethics from him and his staff.

I have had good and less good experiences with Brian Lee. He is very easy to get along with and is a social being. He is not always the best communicator and how he treats you depends on how you perform a lot of the time. I don't think he always creates the best culture

Is a good coach as long as things go well for the team performance and standing. As things becomes difficult in the standings, will shout at people on and off the field during game and get pretty intense without being cosntructive. One could say that he is passionate about the game but really he is passionate about getting results only and doesn't care if we play good soccer or not. The team did not have captains at the beginning of the season and mid seasons captains were chosen without the whole team being consulted. If there are team issues only part of the team will take a decision that may or not affect everyone on the team. Is pretty good at motivational speeches. Makes it known that he has favorites. The good thing and most forward thinking he has in my opinion is that he does not believe intense fitness training (like lifting heavy and heavy conditionning) makes you the best player and tends to include a ball in everything that his fitness related beside the gym. Will tell you that school is important as long as it doesn't interfere with soccer development. So he doesn't support ambitious majors.

Great guy. If you apply yourself and work hard he will like you. Easy to talk to and will respect what you have to say if you do the right things and respect him too. Training isn't amazing but you get out what you put in.
