I am on the womens cross country & track team and a huge part of the reason why I chose Dickinson was because of Coach Nichter. My experience so far has been good, however I will note that Coach is pretty old school. He expects you to constantly be at your best, no BS. I have had issues with him understanding/respecting mental health, burn out, etc...but as we've had a few incidents on our team already, I think he's starting to come to terms, and it's a work in progress for sure. He's incredibly knowledgeable, and if you are an easily "coachable" athlete, you will see exceptional results. I have never ran as fast as I have with Coach Nichter! He is so knowledgeable and passionate about what hes doing. If you are equally passionate about xc and/or track, you will love being on the team.

Nichter is a great coach. Sometimes he gets caught up in successes of his athletes and tries to push everyone towards a boundary that might overlap with school, but he is a great communicator, listens and works with athletes to achieve their personal goals as well as have fun with it

Nichter has led the Dickinson XCTF program to be one of the most successful in the conference, and a notable program in national rankings. As a D3 coach he prioritizes academics while expecting his athletes to be dedicated to athletics as well. It's a big team so he holds office hours during the day to discuss training. He's smart but intense.

Nichter is very kind and cares a lot about his team. He is a distance coach, however, so as a non-distance athlete there is occasionally some disconnect between the groups, but we have some great assistant coaches that we can always rely on to keep training and competition running smoothly.

Coach Nichter is extremely disconnected from the sprint program. The success of the sprint crew is secondary to that of the distance team. Coming from a cohesive and competitive D1 team in high school, I was let down by the lack of unison of the team and the underwhelming standards.
