Practices are basically the same everyday with little variation. Focuses a lot of doubles play. Can be passive aggressive in calling out players on the team in a subtle way.

Nate Simms was a coach who cared about his players and wanted what was best for them but sometimes thought selfishly for the team and himself. He was disorganized at times, had an old school mentality and was not caught up to date on modern day coaching. He was a motivational coach that believed in you

Not knowledgeable in general, only know how to coach doubles. That he does very well. But every other aspect of a coach that you would seek, he does not embody. He is dishonest, manipulative, and treats his adult players like children. Thus, Skidmore tennis feels like an after-school program you are forced to show up to. Talented guys, soitsashame.

Would never recommend anyone to come play for Coach Simms. He's dishonest, holds grudges, not sincere, nor does he put his players above himself. He's a great doubles and return coach, but does not know the fundamentals of anything else. I regret playing for Coach Simms and hope people don't make the same mistake.

Hes a polarizing person, my view of him is negative. If you are not in line with what he wants he will bully and manipulate you under the guise of leadership. He called me stupid on several occasions and later gave me an insincere apology. My advice is quit if you feel like you dont belong because you probably dont. No positive reinforcement

Low energy coach. Shows strong favoritism of certain players. Quick to judge and hold grudges. Good doubles coach.

He’s a good doubles coach but horrible at everything else. He is dishonest, manipulative, and passive-aggressive.

Picks heavy favorites and doesn’t really care about the others on the team. He keeps a crazy biased opinion about everything, so opening up to him really does nothing.

Coach Simms is a great guy and an excellent doubles coach. He has mastered the return of serve and the volley by emphasizing simplicity. Coach Simms has strong values which some people misunderstand and can offend but I personally love the guy!

Nate has his own ways of working and demands players' cooperating. It feels unreasonable at first and some of players fails to connect with him. Once you understand his rationale, his actions make a lot more sense. His rules and methods are developed throughout years of coaching experience, which younger players tend to find it hard to comprehend.

If you care about tennis, want to get better, or want to enjoy yourself - go somewhere else. I spent four grueling, arduous, PAINFUL years with Coach Simms and despite his best attempts to make me fail I still succeeded. That's correct, my coach openly wanted me to fail. Coach Simms is not knowledgeable about tennis, plays strong favorites with a select one or two people each season, and if you do not tend to relate to his personal non-tennis related beliefs, you are a social outcast to him. Every practice feels equal to going out and rallying with someone for two hours, I feel like I haven't had genuine tennis instruction since I was in high school. The reason the team is successful in league and tournament play is strictly because of the players.
