OD is two sided. As a recruiter, he showed a positive side, as a coach, he was a tyrant and there's not one Navy Class of 2026 player or parent who would say otherwise, regardless of playing time. OD accosted and threatened real people, players and parents. I write from first hand experience. OD threatened to harm players' time at the Naval academy and their futures if they reported his behavior.

I've known OD through the game, and these posts doesn't reflect the person I've experienced. Coaching is a profession where strong opinions are inevitable, but reducing someone's career and character to anonymous accusations isn't constructive. The best measure of a coach is the players they've developed, the relationships they've built, and the people who've worked alongside them over time. Not anonymous internet comments. I wish OD nothing but success at Mercersburg, and I hope people judge him by their own experiences rather than by posts like this.

OD claimed to be the best of the best coaches in the world. Was a malignant tumor for the Naval Academy. Following his firing from Navy, Tim O'Donohue "OD" managed to deceive Mersersburg Academy into hiring him. Ironic that in addition to hiring them to coach their lackluster high school soccer team, Mersersburg hired Od to teach English. OD can't complete a sentence without sounding like a drunken fool! It won't take long for OD's true colors to come forth. Beware Mersersburg soccer players, English students and families. This man will verbally assault and torment your kids! OD lacks character and decency!

"It's not difficult to imagine neighbors and close relatives would presume negative reviews come solely from players who didn't see much action. It's harder to reconcile apocryphal descriptions of global respect and leadership. To address these claims, consider in especial that players who were on the pitch for nearly all possible minutes some seasons also share the sentiment of the majority in these honest reviews. Additionally, the truth always wins out so we will see where OD ends up. If he is an elite and globally respected coach he will certainly appear at another D1 program (surely somewhere much higher than 206th ranked Navy men's soccer!) or possibly even an MLS or USL club. For only great levels such as those befit a man of reputed lofty stature. Right? Or are the other reviews accurate and this is the first stop on End of The Road Drive? Such a pity (or is that too pithy?)"

The only tantrums thrown on the soccer field or in the locker room while Tim O'Donohue coached at the Naval Academy were by Tim himself. When the team lost every game during the 2025 season he became increasingly unhinged. Even his favorite players reported Tim's out of control temper and inexcusable behavior. the truth is out there that even those with the highest of tolerance and toughness consider Tim O'Donohue a nightmare of a person and a coach. probably five players in 10 years would say he's a decent person or coach. abusers know if they leave a couple out of their target they can have a few to say they can't believe the person is bad. Tim is a bad guy, a horrible coach, and has the temperament of a deranged pit bull.

OD is an elite coach, mentor, and leader whose reputation is firmly established and widely respected across the global soccer community. He develops serious competitors, demands accountability, and treats players like adults. OD's approach produces strong athletes and stronger people, but it also exposes players who expect things to be handed to them. High-level programs are not for everyone. Some players respond to being challenged and others respond by throwing tantrums.

Coach O.D. is an exceptional coach, leader, and motivator who knows how to build a strong program and develop players both on the soccer field and as people off it. He genuinely invests in his players, holds them to high standards, and—most importantly—has their backs, which I know from personal experience. Overall, he was outstanding to play for, and I couldn’t recommend him more highly.

It’s not possible to fully emphasize what a nightmare it was to have Tim O’Donahue as a coach. He took his paranoias, superstitions, failures and coaching ineptness out on us on a daily basis. On whims, to perversely suggest he’s all powerful, Tim O’Donohue placed phone calls to our parents. He didn’t schedule appointments. He called parents anytime day or night to berate them over the phone and threaten to harm their kids’ soccer and military futures. Players that reach the D1 level have had many coaches over the years and we all would say only Tim O’Donohue displayed this degree of abuse to players and unsuspecting parents alike. Daily he called us together so he could single out a player to berate infront of all. He regularly went on foul-mouthed rampages. Fearing his job was on the line, during the 2025 season he verbally assaulted even his “favorite” players blaming them for his lack of success and screaming vulgarities and calling players names not fit for anyone to hear. With Tim O’Donohue’s Dismissal from navy mns soccer the future is bright for current and future players. But unfortunately, all of us who had to endure four years playing for this miserable soil, our college soccer experience was tarnished by a man devoid of self-control, decency, character or a moral compass.

Benefits from being a service academy coach for at a “normal” college 50% of the roster would transfer out. The treatment of players and man management is one expletive short of straight up abuse. The unanimous opinion from starters and the don’t-ever-play squad alike was always the same for 8+ years… “he’s a terrible coach”. Players regress under him. Rides the high crest of being a good coach at D2 level ten years ago into the fading sunset in That’s All He Talks About land. At times struggles to form complete sentences and make eye contact. Woefully inept to handle being the coach of future leaders, he succeeds in concession only by inspiring others to NOT be like him.

Tim O’Donohue is an exceptionally horrible person and was fired for player and parent abuse as much as he was fired for consecutive losing seasons as Navy men’s soccer coach. There are few coaches and people as terrible and two faced as Tim O’Donhue. Listening to him ramble at the year end banquets was like listening to a drunk, narcissist brag about himself. Players past and present celebrated when the truth about his character deprivation was reported and his position terminated. Tim stacked Navy’s non Patriot League schedule with weak teams so he could get some wins on record. Didn’t have even one league win in 2025 and finished dead last in the Patriot league in 2025 with demoralized players who couldn’t wait (like most previous players) to get away from despicable Tim O’Donohue. Also didn’t make playoffs in a weak Patriot league league in 2024. Lost to army 4-0 in 2025. Lost to army in 2024 when Army’s only win that season was against Navy. The stories of Tim’s abuses toward many are rampant and were kept under wrap far too long because he threatened to retaliate. The truth was revealed and he is gone from Navy at last!

He may seem calm and well-centered at first but don’t be fooled. This coach is two-faced, abusive, vindictive, and completely unqualified. He has no clue about the sport he coaches, like a Ted Lasso, but abusive and vindictive instead of kind and inspiring. He threatens and intimidates rather than teaches, showing behavior that betrays the Naval Academy values. The disappointment with the soccer program is overwhelming, and he is widely despised by players and parents alike.
