If you are a swimmer, Yuri is a great coach. He will pay attention to you and because of his abundance of knowledge for the sport of swimming, you will succeed under him. However, if you are a diver get ready to be belittled, ignored, and treated as if you are not a member of the UW swim and dive team. It seems like Yuri forgets that there is an “and” between the words swimming AND diving in his job title. He will not care about how you are doing mentally, medically, and physically. The only time he cares is during competition but you still will not see him smiling or applauding on the side of the pool deck. But with the swimmers, he is incredibly supportive.

I've swum for Yuri for 3 years and have loved it. He's upfront and honest while maintaining a strong awareness of how his swimmers are feeling. He is intense, no joke, but he knows what he's doing.
