My experience at Bloomsburg University, and being a student athlete under Shannon Hertz has been nothing but amazing! I have met my forever friends and have learned so much about myself through academics and playing lacrosse. Shannon Hertz understands each of her players needs and adjust her coaching style to fit each player. She is very passionate about the sport and her job. So some would say she is intense, but she knows how to push each individual academically and athletically. Personally as a player, I needed the intense moments. The hard practices, the losses, the fitness, it all made me the strong woman I am today. As a team, we always knew how to have fun, through the good and bad times. Every win and every loss, we learned as a team and grew from every experience. I have made my forever friends here! Shannon knows how to make college feel like home while you’re away. She’s always giving away gear, creating a fun atmosphere around the holidays (christmas party, Easter egg hunts), hosting dinner and pizza party’s at the field house, and even checking in on our mental health. I couldn’t imagine playing anywhere else or under another coach. If I could do it all over again, I would still pick Bloomsburg!!

Coach brought my daughter together with her, to this day, best friends. We had the best experience as parents, tailgating, meeting the other parents and cheering on our girls. Nothing negative, wonderful experience.

Mcfarland these comments say it all. No need to keep repeating the same thing. Bloomsberg needs to do something about this coach. ESPECIALLY when it comes to mental health. The program has gone downhill and you need to do better for future athletes coming into this girls lacrosse program.

    DisorganizedPoor Communication

In my opinion, committing to the women’s lacrosse program at Bloomsburg under Coach Shannon Hertz would be a poor decision for any prospective student-athlete seeking a positive and developmental college experience. The program reflects a lack of leadership, poor communication, and questionable coaching practices that appear to have existed for years. Rather than prioritizing player development, constructive feedback, and team culture, the coaching style often seems centered around favoritism, manipulation, and division among players. Many athletes are left without meaningful guidance or opportunities to grow both on and off the field. Even more frustrating is that the coach often does not practice what she preaches, creating a disconnect between the standards expected of players and the behavior demonstrated by leadership. A successful college program should provide accountability, mentorship, and a healthy environment for student-athletes. Unfortunately, this program appears to fall short in those areas. The ongoing dysfunction, lack of professionalism, and ineffective leadership have negatively impacted the overall player experience, while the team’s win-loss record has also trended considerably under .500 in recent years. Equally concerning is the administration’s apparent awareness of these ongoing issues with little effort made to address them. The lack of accountability has allowed this culture to continue for years. For any athlete considering playing college lacrosse, I would strongly recommend looking at other institutions where leadership, player development, and athlete well-being are treated as priorities.
