Coach Ben was hazing my child

Watch out for this swim program. My child was hazed by Coach Ben and the 2 assistant coaches saw it and said NOTHING. Those 2 assistant coaches are now the head coaches of the team. The team culture is terrible and the swimmers exclude others. My child scored 52 points for the team at conference champs and Coach Ben did not have one positive word to say about it. This is the poorest excuse for a “Christian” university. My child’s treatment was so far from Christian like it was pathetic. I hired a recruiter to help with finding the right college, and after hearing about the hazing my child endured, the recruiter said she will NEVER place another recruit at Carson Newman University. Please beware. This program is toxic.

Narcissistic, hot head, Lacks feel and loses his team halfway through each year. Most of the guys on the team agree every year that he needs to retire but everyone is too scared to stand up to him he pretends like he’s eveyones master and we must treat him like he’s god! When he’s only coaches for his benefit.

Ben Young, a product of the program he now runs, is building something fantastic with Carson-Newman. He puts countless hours into this team and constructs fantastic relationships with his swimmers. He also knows when to keep it real and is not going to lie to you when you come up short. He knows limits and how to push you to exceed them. He is a strong sprint coach but also knows his stuff when it comes to breaststroke and distance freestyle. His assistant and GA complement the knowledge gaps well to where they can truly reconstruct a swimmer for the better. Highly recommend getting on the train before it leaves the station, because this program is going places.

    Poor Communication

There are not three words listed that describe her. She is very difficult to play for and to talk to. She is verbally abusive and unfair. She is not available for players to ask questions (coaching advice). She is just plain rude and will never admit being wrong. She tends to play very few members of the team and at times has just plain unrealistic expectations. Violates NCAA Rules. Puts academics second and pushes players if hurt or ill to play regardless. She is definitely not the person who presents on first meeting. Beware.
