Coach Hovis is the best coach I've ever had. She is so passionate and knowledgeable about the sport, and has a talent for making us fall in love with the training and racing. She believes in us when we don't believe in ourselves, and our performance gains reflect that. She works with the newcomers and 3v8, and her athletes have consistently been high performing in their racing divisions and go on to become phenomenal upperclassmen with her training base. She also works so hard behind the scenes to make sure the athletes are completely cared for, such as by scheduling our healthy meals and ensuring no one feels alone. She builds our team culture by being relatable about her experiences as a collegiate rower, keeping high but realistic expectations for excellence, and creating a welcoming environment for all. I would come to Kansas all over again just to be coached by her, she completely changed the trajectory of my rowing career.
