I played lacrosse at Cincinnati for Coach Gina. I really loved my time there. My teammates were amazing—we had each others backs and built a bond on and off the field. Even with the crazy schedule, I didn’t mind the grind. That part was expected. Coach Gina definitely knows lacrosse. She played and coached at super high levels and you can tell she’s all about the sport. Her lacrosse IQ is insane, and shes really good at breaking down skills and the technical side of the game. But honestly, just because someone was a great player doesn’t always mean theyre a great coach. The biggest struggle for me was how she handled people. She was constantly tearing us down without ever really helping us build back up. It wasn’t that the expectations were too high it was the way it was communicated. There was barely any positive feedback and most of the time it felt like we were just getting criticized with no clear path to get better. It got pretty draining especially when she would say one thing and then totally change it later, like nothing happened. A lot of miscommunication and mixed messages. I just wish there was more honesty, clarity and actual support from her as the leader of the team. I get that coaching at this level is tough. D1 sports arent easy for anyone. But after all her years in the game I really expected more growth from her in how she leads people especially when shes always asking us to grow and improve too. The other coaches were honestly the ones who helped make the experience manageable. They brought some balance and actually made us feel supported. This is just me being real. I learned a lot through my time there—some of it the hard way—but Im still grateful for my teammates and everything I took from the experience to my new place in life
