“One of the best coaches I’ve ever had” — that’s easy to say when you were one of the favorites. I wasn’t. I watched one player lead the team and rank 6th in the SWAC in strikeouts, yet still get named MVP. Another got the Bulldog Award for leadership, even though she mostly kept to herself or the other favorites. A decent hitter with poor defense was never held accountable. And the assistant coach’s daughter? Always protected. Meanwhile, the rest of us were demeaned, verbally and psychologically abused, benched, had our scholarships or playing time reduced or were cut entirely.
