Coach Kara is genuinely the best coach I have ever had. I was still a new lacrosse player aspiring to play at the Division 1 level and she gave me a chance I won’t forget and I will always try to make her proud. From day one, she helped me believe in myself in ways I didn’t even realize I needed. One of her biggest mottos is encouraging others, and she lives that every single day. She never just coached the athlete, she cared about the person. She took time to connect with my family, even going out of her way to introduce herself to my grandparents after games, which meant more to me than she probably knows. That’s just who Kara is, she has a rare gift of making people feel seen and important. I will always cherish my time with her. I know the transition into the world of D3 sports at Capital hasn’t been smooth for her because of the team she took over, but she breeds excellence no matter what. Her positive attitude and outlook never wavered with us, and that consistency made such a difference for our team. I’ll never forget outscoring Duke in the first quarter a few years ago while she was pregnant. I am always inspired by her. She constantly preaches the importance of being vulnerable and authentic, and the most powerful part was that she wore that every day herself. Because she practiced what she preached, she created an environment where I truly felt safe being myself. Playing for Kara didn’t just make me a better athlete, it made me a more confident person, and that’s something I’ll carry with me forever.
