I knew going to college for athletics would be a major time commitment but throughout my time there, I put an extensive amount of physical and emotional stress on my body. I was able to grow my fundamentals and knowledge about the game. However, this was at the expense of my mental well being. Treated as an athlete rather than as a person, my experience as a whole negatively affected my mental health. Having a coach to player relationship wasn’t something I thought I would need. But since leaving Iowa Western, I have discovered how important that is and how much better my experience could have been if I had that.
