I am writing this to warn other parents and players to stay away from Coach Switalski’s ES Soccer Camps. After my daughter has attended two of her camps at the University of Tampa, it has become crystal clear that these camps are designed to generate money in her pocket than actually scout or recruit talent. The “Infinite Loop” Feedback My daughter has attended two separate camps. Despite seeing her play extensively, and being provided with a very basic feedback email from the head coach which once again indicated she “needs to see her play again,” My daughter followed up with a professional email to the head coach requesting a brief phone call to discuss her recruitment status and what she needed to work on to get on or remain on the recruiting radar; only to receive a generic response from Coach Switalski: an invitation to attend yet another camp. The message was that it “would be great to work with her again in a smaller group setting,” which is clearly code for “pay us for a third time.” Subpar Coaching Standards The quality of coaching at the camp opens another level of questions. The camp is broken into 3 groups. Both camps my daughter has attended she has been coached and evaluated by someone we have come to find out is not even a college soccer coach. The first camp the other 2 groups were coached by the asst. coach and a division 1 coach; and the second camp the other 2 groups were coached by Coach Switalski and the asst. The “coach” leading my daughters group both camps appeared to know absolutely nothing about soccer, which is unacceptable when you are paying a premium for “elite” college exposure. Why not cap the camp at 2 groups if you can’t bring in an actual college soccer coach? Another sign of just wanting money. It is insulting to pay for an “ID Camp” only to be coached by someone who isn’t even in the college game. Unprofessional Environment The atmosphere isn’t one of development or genuine evaluation. My daughter was informed by other campers that the Head Coach spent time yelling at their group because she was “displeased” with their level of play. It is disheartening to see a coach insult players she is supposed to be evaluating, especially when the camp structure itself is so poorly managed. Bottom Line: Save your money. I understand all ID camps are a revenue generator for college programs, but when you are bringing unqualified coaches and the Head Coach herself is yelling at players shows this is not a good financial investment. Do not fall for the “we need to see you again” line. It is a tactic to keep the camp spots filled and money flowing into her pockets. Stay away!
