My scholar-athlete experience was severely limited by Coach Young. Davidson itself is a great school, and the facilities, medical staff, and resources are generally appropriate…despite the athletic department having only one mental health counselor for all 500 student-athletes…a HUGE issue at Davidson. Favoritism is very apparent within the coaching staff, Coach Young’s practices are unproductive, and communication is extremely poor. Don't expect a response for several days, if you receive one at all. In my experience, Coach Young often disregards medical opinions and questions your honesty if you truly need time to recover or take care of yourself. This creates the impression that you are not putting in as much time and effort as your teammates, even when dealing with legitimate health concerns. Coach Young and other members of the coaching staff demonstrated unprofessionalism through apparent favoritism, poor communication, and a lack of support for athletes’ recovery needs.
