Coach Rouse was my Head Baseball Coach for two years during my time at Saint Xavier. Throughout those two seasons, his passion for baseball, competitiveness, and desire to win were very evident. He wanted the program to be successful and was willing to put a great deal of time and energy into building a competitive team. One of the things I will always give Coach Rouse credit for is that he genuinely cared. He cared about the baseball program, the players, the culture, and the direction of the team. I believe that his intentions were often rooted in wanting to see the program and the players succeed. That genuine investment in the people around him is something I will always acknowledge and respect. At the same time, there were aspects of his tenure that were difficult. There were instances where promises or expectations were not ultimately followed through on, and there were some off-the-field situations and decisions that I did not feel reflected the standards that should be expected of a collegiate baseball program. In my experience, those situations affected the trust and consistency within the program and ultimately made it difficult to overlook some of the negative aspects of his tenure. While I believe the negatives ultimately outweighed the positives during his time at Saint Xavier, I do not want that to overshadow the positive impact he had on me personally. Coach Rouse believed in me as a player and gave me opportunities that I am grateful for. His confidence in my abilities meant a great deal to me at the time, and it is something I will continue to appreciate. Overall, my experience with Coach Rouse was complicated. I can acknowledge the shortcomings and decisions that I believe negatively affected the program while still recognizing that he cared deeply about his players and wanted them to succeed. For me, that is an important distinction. I may not agree with everything that happened during his tenure, but I will always respect the belief he had in me and the fact that he genuinely cared about the program and the people within it.
