The program culture is overly intense and often driven by comparison rather than development. Players are routinely measured against one another and evaluated primarily through fitness testing, creating a perception that acceptance is based on meeting specific numbers rather than overall soccer ability, effort, and contribution to the team. When results fall short, feedback frequently comes across as berating or belittling, leaving players feeling undervalued rather than supported. The environment can undermine confidence and team cohesion instead of fostering growth. There also appears to be difficulty establishing a Michigan identity, as standards and expectations from previous programs seem to be prioritized over building upon the culture and traditions already in place. Assistant coaches, should be reevaluated for their impact on player experience. Interactions are often perceived as negative, overly directive, and at times intrusive, including involvement in matters such as off-campus living arrangements that have traditionally been managed by players themselves. Overall, the program would benefit from a more positive, player-centered approach that emphasizes relationship-building, accountability, and development rather than comparison, criticism, and projecting frustrations onto others.

She cares deeply about mental health but struggles to deal with individuals who have mental health issues. She preaches to be honest and direct but seems to be fearful of receiving the same back towards her. If she loves you then you’ll have no problems with her however if you are not a favorite you’re in for a bumpy ride. Be careful when she promises you things as she does not deliver and will gaslight you into believing that promise was never made. However some positives are; she’s always available via text, she believes in rest days (only for the people who play a ton of minutes which is fair). She tries new formations, and she believes in addressing the emotional aspects of soccer. Overall was not a good coach for me personally due to the lack of honesty, belief in me, and not delivering on promises. But her favorites had little to no problems with her.

Do not come to Michigan rowing. Mark is probably the most unqualified for this coaching position. He does not care about the team as a whole concerning the athletes, he just cares about who will kiss up to him the most. He is hypocritical and does not have a method at all to his coaching, how he makes lineups, or how he has the team train. He has wasted a lot of potential and put athletes through mental agony, making the sport someone once loved become a chore, toxic, and not fun. He doesn’t rely on numbers or seat race results; instead he will choose someone slower essentially (2 of my teammates won their seat races and then were sent home after Big Tens). It is devastating and frustrating to witness and personally experience the failure of a team he has created due to his incompetencies. He has let down the team and many talented athletes in so many heartbreaking ways that is unacceptable. Compliance doesn’t care either. No one cares about women’s rowing. They are hypocritical. They don’t want to change anything or listen to our feedback. Very poor leadership. Toxic culture. Do not come here. You will be very unhappy. Go somewhere else. Trust.
